Francisco A. Arabia, MD, MBA, attended the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA, and received his medical degree in 1983. Furthermore, he conducted his general surgery residency at Tulane University Affiliate Hospitals in New Orleans, Louisiana. In addition, he completed his cardiothoracic surgery training at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, AZ. Dr. Arabia received board certification in cardiothoracic surgery from the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He completed his engineering undergraduate degree at Tulane University as well as an MBA degree at the University of Arizona in 2006. Dr. Arabia is the recipient of multiple honors and awards, including the Training Award of Excellence from the American Society for Artificial Internal Organs in 1998, the 1996 ASAIO/Lippincott-Raven Book Award (Success Rates of Long-Term Circulatory Assist Devices Currently Used for Bridge to Heart Transplantation), and the 1996 Yoshioka & Akutsu Prize (Patient Selection for Successful Outcome with the CardioWest Total Artificial Heart as a Bridge to Heart Transplantation).
